Why Have A Vision Statement?
A district's vision statement defines where the organization intends to be three to five years in the future. To make the vision become a reality, the vision statement must become much more than a framed print in the administration office. It must become the collective 'vision' of all district stakeholders.
If leadership is the only stakeholders who truly hold the vision, the most they can hope to achieve is a compliant staff, community and student body. Catching hold of the vision is the catalyst that promotes a passion for obtaining excellence and becoming a level 5 organization. Research is clear that true systemic change is a 3 to 5 year process at best. Therefore, the vision statement should not be a static representation of the district's future, but should be periodically revisited to ensure its continued relevance.
